Ansons Bay, Bay of Fires, Tasmania

As a mid-point to our trip, we booked a home in Ansons Bay in the Bay of Fires. The Bay of Fires is a section of coastline known for its white sand beaches, granite boulders, and orange lichen.

Ansons Bay is a small community only accessible via dirt roads. Full time residents top out at 65 where vacationers total a couple hundred.

The house was perfect. Equipped with a barbecue, beach access with kayaks, and a glass wall which folded up like an accordion giving us an open wall to the bay.

We were all too busy enjoying the view to remember to take pictures.

After spending an hour visiting with the neighbors, we found ourselves invited to the annual neighborhood appreciation luncheon at the near by Bay of Fires Lodge.

What a treat! Gourmet meal with endless beer and wine. We road up to the lodge in a shuttle bus so we were all free to completely enjoy ourselves.

The view from the lodge is one of the best in the area.

The lodge itself exists as part of a 4-day hiking tour of the area. Definitely a pampered experience. When you reach the lodge on Day 2, you are greeted with a glass of wine and a pedicure.

Day 3 of the hike is spent kayaking in the morning and enjoying the spa in the afternoon. We loved this secluded soaking tub.

After a few hours at the lodge, we all sunk into the house to escape the heat and enjoy a nap.

In the afternoon, we went kayaking mostly to escape the heat. It was 110 degrees today.

The next day, we headed off to explore the rest of the Bay of Fires.

We started at The Gardens …

And finished at Binalong Bay.

As we were heading out of town, we stumbled on a wine and cars festival to celebrate Australia Day, the day the English landed.

What a great two day break from hiking.
